Who was your first girlfriend?

Jennifer. I met her at a bus stop on the way to school when I was 15. We got talking and went out for about a year. She was at grammar school and I was at the comprehensive, so our love crossed the educational divide.

When did you lose your virginity?

Just before I was 16, with Jennifer. We both felt ready but the first time was rather awkward.

Do you remember your first passionate kiss?

I was 12, and on a school trip to France. We were staying in a boarding house and this girl sneaked into the bedroom I was sharing with four other boys and threw herself at me.

Who first broke your heart?

When I was 16, I went on holiday and my girlfriend and I both swore we would be faithful while I was away. When I came back two weeks later, she admitted she had gone out with another bloke. I was at her house and her mother always made me take off my shoes before I went indoors. I was so upset that I walked out without them. I didn't get my shoes back, or my girlfriend.

How did you find out about the facts of life?

Very early on I asked my mother where babies came from, and she told me that the man passes a seed to the woman. I thought you had to walk around with a packet of seeds in your pocket! But apart from that, I think my parents relied on me picking up information in the playground, and I really didn't have a clue until I was eighteen.

Have you told your children the facts of life?

I've never had a formal chat with my 13 year-old son, but I presume he knows them by now. I think we are more open with our children than my parents were with me.

Does lovemaking improve with age?

It becomes less frequent, but more enjoyable.

What attracts you to a woman?

I like lithe women.

What turns you off?

If she is terribly overweight.

What is the best or worst chat-up line you have ever used?

I tended to use jokes rather than a serious chat-up line. A typical one would be something like: "My name is Mike, but you can call me Tuesday at my place."

Should men always make the first move?

I think men need to believe that they do.

Is promiscuity ever acceptable?

I don't believe you can be promiscuous and have a proper relationship.

Are men more promiscuous than women?

Men have a natural predisposition to "sow their oats" as widely as possible and it is society's job to curb that instinct and to centre things around the family. Too many men take an irresponsible attitude, make women pregnant and leave them holding the baby.

Is there too much sex on television?

I don't think it is controlled properly. There is no point having a 9pm watershed if it is not policed adequately.

What is the most erotic film you have ever seen?

Decameron.

And the most erotic book?

In Praise of Older Women, which I read when I was 18.

Have you ever seen a pornographic film?

When I was in my hippy days I worked in Amsterdam sweeping the floor of a porn cinema, so I saw films by default. But I wouldn't pay good money to watch them.

Could you forgive your wife if she was unfaithful?

Yes. It's only sex, after all. Being unfaithful physically isn't always the same as being unfaithful mentally.

Have you ever been unfaithful in a relationship?

No, because I know what damage it can cause.

What is the most unusual place you have ever made love?

A swimming pool.

Would you ever pose naked for a women's magazine?

Yes, because I'm safe in the knowledge that no-one would ever ask me!

How many sexual partners have you had?

A couple.

Have you ever used a sex manual to improve your love life?

I've read The Joy of Sex.

How often do you make love?

It depends on how many vitamins I've taken...usually two or three times a week.

What do you like to do afterwards?

Relax and talk for a while.

What does your wife find most attractive about you?

My bank balance, perhaps. I think she liked my hair when she first met me. I had lots and it was blond.

Dani Behr and Anna Walker.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

No, only in lust.
