'...When it rains it pours. After months of silence HAZELL DEAN returns
with two new full-length releases scheduled to ship back-to-back in as
many months. First up is 'The Best of Hazell Dean' from Miami based Hot
productions. "I was against it at first", Hazell told us this week by
phone from London, "because I think it's a bit misleading'. Indeed, for a
"best of", it's a bit sparse with edited versions of bigger hits like
'Searchin'' and 'Whatever I Do' being supplemented by ten new tracks
recorded over the last two years with producer Ian Levine. It was the
fondness for her new material, however, that finally precluded her
consent. "There are tracks that nobody's heard before (and I was finally
persuaded that) they were important enough to release".
Legions of Hazell fans the world over seem to agree, as the albums
initial sales are among the most brisk on Hots history, with double and
triple reorders from stores already being reported.
Meanwhile over in the UK, Hazell has just inked a deal with Carlton
Records for an album of ABBA covers to be released just after the first
of the year. "It's not what you'd expect" she explained, further noting
that the producers were interested in less obvious choices from the ever
green ABBA pop titles catalogue. A few of the Swedish supergroups more
popular titles will be included, of course, and Hazell promises to
approach each from a distinctly different direction. "The first single
will be 'The Winner Takes it all', which is my own personal favourite
(ABBA song)...and just wait until you hear what we've done with it!".
"Knowing Hazell, it should be a knockout!"...'
