ROGER COOKED ME UP
My pop career is TV stunt says Currie girl
THE saucy bid for pop glory by the daughter of Edwina Currie was all a
HOAX dreamed up telly sleuth Roger Cook.
Outrageous Debbie Currie, 22, will today reveal she can't even
SING.
Her pop career was part of an elaborate probe by ITV's The Cook Report
into chart-rigging.
A source close to her said last night: "She fooled a lot of people into
thinking she really wanted to be a pop star.
"Debbie talked on TV about it to Richard and Judy and the Big Breakfast.
Lots of newspapers were taken in. She thinks it's hilarious." The Sun
was NOT fooled by Debbie's antics as she hyped her record You Can
Do Magic into the Top 100.
Stunts included being interviewed on TV alongside ex-Tory MP Edwina,
boasting of four-in-a-bed romps and telling how she lost her virginity
at 15.
She even posed for this picture - topless with fried eggs on her
nipples. But all the time the yolk was on the music industry.
The Cook Report secretly filmed her disc being snapped up in BULK
by buying squads at chart-return record shops.
The show hoped her record would make the Top Ten - but the scam
backfired when it only got to No 86.
Debbie was also to have performed a concert with ex-East-Ender Sean
Maguire but just four tickets were sold.
She will reveal the hoax at a London press conference today. The first
episode of Roger Cook's two-part investigation will be screened on June
3.
The source said: "Debbie was happy to go along with the idea."
