XTREME

by Vicky Davidson & Joolz MacCaskill.

AFTER making her mark as a guest vocalist on the Sash dance classic Mysterious Ways two years ago, dance diva Tina Cousins is back with a new sound and a new outlook on life.

She's been working hard to establish herself as a solo artist, stating firmly that there is life after Sash!

Tina has already had success in her own right, and was alongside the likes of Steps, Billie and Cleopatra as part of the pop line-up which paid tribute to Abba.

"That was really good fun. Although some people, especially those from the dance side of things, criticised me for my involvement," says 25-year-old Tina.

"But I had a great time doing it, although I was a bit surprised that they chose me because everyone else involved was very much from the teenybopper background and I'm much more dance-orientated.

"Still you're not going to say, `It's not quite my scene', are you? In this line of work, it's best if you don't take yourself too seriously...

"I didn't! I had to wear a skin tight silver catsuit, for goodness sake!"

A smash hit across the UK, Tina loves the club gigs. She says: "They are so atmospheric. You're there in a club with 800 sweaty people and when you ask them `Are you having a good time?' they scream and shout back. It's absolutely brilliant!"

Success for the sexy songstress isn't limited to the UK. Much to her surprise she's top of the pops in Beirut!

"I once travelled to a show in the Lebanon and when I got there I was told I'd had three No 1 hits! When I arrived at the hotel, all the staff were lined up with the red carpet treatment. I felt like a princess. I was bizarre, but extremely cool!"

Although Tina's new single, Angel, is a departure in style from her Mysterious Ways days, the track has been remixed by dance giant Tall Paul and will be the last pop mix the master-mixer will ever do.

With some of the biggest names in dance behind her, it's not surprising that Tina was a special guest at the opening of the UK's newest dance haven - Home, in London.

But Tina didn't quite receive the Home-coming she expected.

"I was knocked back by the girl at the door!" says Tina. "But someone recognised me and I got in!"
