Me and my health
Former model and school cleaner Ellie Campbell is pop svengali Pete
Waterman's latest singing discovery. The 20-year-old blonde from
Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, got her lucky break when she sang down the
telephone to her present manager. Her debut single Sweet Lies just
missed the Top 40 back in March and her follow up So Many Ways is
released on July 19. Her progress in the music industry is being
followed by BBC1's Electric Circus. Ellie still commutes between her
family home and London.
Healthy outlook: Ellie Campbell loves fruit and salads and exercises
whenever possible.
How much sleep do you need? With the job I do, I only manage to
get five hours because I'm working such long hours and the starts always
seem to be early. But I get along fine with that amount of time.
How do you feel first thing in the morning? I'm more of a night
person but I'm fine after a shower and a cup of tea to really wake me
up.
What exercise do you take? I go to the gym as often as I can,
maybe three to four days a week and always swim when I get time off. I
also sauna and steam my body.
Are you careful about what you eat? I eat what I like because I
work it off but I don't really like chocolate anyway. I love fruit and
salads but my one weakness is chips.
Are you or have you ever been overweight? Yes, I have - when I
was nine, my mum and dad bought a cafe. All I did from nine to 12 years
old was stuff my face but the weight didn't stay on and now my body
weight is normal for my height.
Do you take vitamin and mineral pills? I take a multi-vitamin,
cod liver oil and combined vitamin C and zinc daily. Because of my
workload, I need to make sure my immune system is strong as I really
can't get ill with my job.
What foods can't you bear to eat? I hate cheese, peas, beans and
avocado. They all have a certain texture to them that makes the roof of
my mouth feel awful.
Do you drink or smoke too much? I hardly ever drink but smoke
between six to 10 cigarettes a day. I'm trying to stop though as it's
not very good for my voice or my health.
Have you ever been in hospital? When I was ten I bust my mouth
open on a spiked iron gate that I crashed into on my bike, so I had to
stay in hospital for a couple of days.
Does your job affect your health? My job is both mentally and
physically demanding, so I have to make sure I eat well and rest when I
can so I have enough energy and don't feel too stressed out.
How often do you consult your doctor? I don't get ill very often
so I don't need to consult him that much.
Do you catch a cold most winters? I seem to get one cold every
year but I think most people do!
Do you think you suffer from stress? I'm a very laidback person
and I try to not let things get on top of me. I need to be as calm as
possible in this business.
Do you look after your skin? Yes I do. I have a face pack once a
week then cleanse, tone and moisturise daily and eat lots of fruit. I
also don't wear any make-up when I'm not working so my skin can breath.
Are you happy with your body? I'm very happy with my body because
I am what I am. I believe your looks are all an essential part of what
makes you the way you are.
Do you take more care of yourself as the years go by? Well I'm
only 20 years old now, so it's not something I really think about but
ask me again in 30 years time and if I'm still around then I'll tell
you.
