FORMER hotel chambermaid Ellie Campbell has won a £250,000 record deal
thanks to The Mirror.
Ellie, 20, was "discovered" when we featured her as one of millions of
young people preparing to vote Tony Blair into power in April 1997.
She was spotted in The Mirror by a model agency - but turned their offer
of work down even though she was still cleaning in the hotel.
But manager Ben Bates signed her after she sang a Whitney Houston song
to him down the phone. She was introduced to pop guru Pete Waterman -
who launched Kylie Minogue's singing career - and says: "I haven't
looked back since."
She made her debut this week for Mirror group's L!VE TV and her first
single Sweet Lies was released.
Ellie, real name Tina, of Huddersfield, West Yorks, the sixth of 10
children in her family, said: "It's a real rags to riches story and it's
all thanks to The Mirror. I still can't believe its happening."
