Shareholders need more quality info
SHAREHOLDERS need better quality information if they are to play a more
active role in governing listed companies, according to the Institute of
Chartered Accountants. Ian Mills, president of the Manchester Society of
Chartered Accountants, says: "It is clear that there needs to be greater
disclosure and transparency of information in order that shareholders can
make a reasonable assessment of a company's performance and
governance."Marketing manager ACCOUNTANTS BDO Stoy Hayward has expanded its
Manchester marketing department. Deborah Robson becomes marketing manager
for the North West, with Deborah Holmwood joining as PR executive.Garretts
recruit LAW firm Garretts has strengthened its corporate team in the north
with the appointment of Jonathan Bourne. He joins from Manchester law firm
Lawson Coppock and Hart.Berrymans chosen PRODUCER and songwriter Mike Stock
formerly part of the hugely successful Stock, Aitken and Waterman team has
asked the Manchester office of Berrymans Lace Mawer to represent him in a
multi-million pound dispute. The legal tussle relates to property damage
and business interuption to Mike Stock's London recording studio.Two new
associates FAMILY lawyer Sarah Mynes and litigator Richard Lyne, both
assistant solicitors at Deansgate law firm Davis Blank Furniss, have been
promoted to associate partners.Brand integrity THE brand integrity of a new
mixed fruit cordial produced by Wigan-based firm Ice Pops is being handled
by Michael Heyman at Leigh solicitors Heyman and Co.Sarah is top student
SARAH Rivers of GLF Chartered Accountants has achieved national recognition
as the highest place student of the Chester and North Wales district in the
Institute of Chartered Accountants December 1996 final examinations.
Colleague Tony Tesciuba has been admitted as a member of the Chartered
Institute of Arbitrators.Levy Gee merger LEVY Gee Chartered Accountants has
merged with Birmingham-based firm Calthorpes and will be known as Levy Gee
Calthorpes. The merger is part of the firm's strategy to extend its
national coverage.Shefali is partner SHEFALI Talukdar has become the latest
partner at Bury law firm Clough and Willis. She joins the partnership after
six years heading the firm's residential conveyancing operation.
