Jason ditty that is sealed with a writ
HAVING long discarded my Kylie and Jason vinyl recordings, I am
intrigued to discover that their tuneful ditties are at the centre of a
legal action involving their former producers.
Stock, Aitken, Waterman Ltd has resorted to the High Court to retrieve
any money owed from the heady days of such hits as Kylie's I Should Be
So Lucky and Jason's Sealed With A Kiss.
Oddly, it appears that Pete Waterman, who split from Mike Stock and Matt
Aitken in the early Nineties, is sueing himself. For the writ,
instigated by Stock and Aitken, is issued against three of Waterman's
companies: Pal, PWL Records and PWL International. "If there are any
monies owed, Pete gets whatever we get, he knows that," says Mike Stock.
So Waterman approves? Not exactly. "We haven't spoken for two years,
but our lawyers are in touch." Shades of Dicken's Jarndyce, don't you
think?
