Dettori calls off at Lingfield
Exclusive By Bob Shields
Rangers are all set to go from top of the league to Top of the
Pops.
They're celebrating their nine-in-a-row triumph with a new single
called Glasgow Rangers.
And the man leading their attack on the charts is hit-man Ally
McCoist.
He was picked to do lead vocals because he insisted his singing
voice is almost as effective as his lethal right foot.
The song will get its first airing at the championship party at
Ibrox today.
But the boys in blue are already in training for the big one - a
live appearance on the National Lottery show two weeks' tonight.
Gazza will also have a starring role. But don't worry, he won't
be singing. His job will be to get the balls rolling.
The song has a real chance of being a hit. It was written by
Govan-born Bill Martin, the man behind hits like Puppet on a
String, Congratulations - and England's 1970 World Cup anthem,
Back Home.
And the producers were Mike Stock and Matt Aitken, who've been
responsible for 15 No 1s.
The song was recorded in one afternoon at their studios in
London.
Mike said: "Ally was great to work with. He's a very intelligent
guy with a very quick ear.
"If this takes off, I'd like to work with him again and maybe try
to start him off on a proper singing career."
The Rangers song, which will be in the shops on May 24, has a
Braveheart beat.
Lyrics include the lines:
"Glasgow Rangers, we want the world to know;
Glasgow Rangers, we won it nine in a row;
Come on you boys in blue, all we are asking you;
When will you give us the TEN?"
Bill said: "I hope I've created an anthem the fans will be
chanting forever.
"I'm also proud there is not a sectarian line in it."
He's now planning a video and album for the Christmas market all
about going for 10 in a row.
And Gazza - who hit No 2 with Fog on the Tyne - WILL get to sing
on that.
