Contenders in battle for north-west radio licence must wait until the new year

CONTENDERS in the battle for the north-west radio licence will have to wait until the New Year for a decision. Provisional date for an announcement by the Radio Authority was set for tomorrow, but no decision has yet been made. "We do not expect a decision until early 1997," says a spokeswoman. Around 21 bidders, including consortiums backed by former Beatles producer Sir George Martin, Pete Waterman, and Bob Geldof are in the hotly-contested field.
