A MISS FOR PETE
Pete Waterman failed in the courts last week to stop CBS
Records calling their new recording studio The Hit Factory.
Pete has used the name on compilation album releases and says it is also
the unofficial name given to his PWL Studios. But a three week high
court hearing has decided PWL did not have the rights to the name and
now PWL apparently faces legal costs of nearly £300,000.
This week is also the first week for nearly two years that Stock,
Aitken and Waterman haven't had a record in the Top 40. But a
spokesperson for Pete says, "It's just because they haven't released as
many records as they usually do." Nevertheless, they must be
disappointed that Jason's new single failed to make the Top 10
and that Sonia and Big Fun's worthy Childline single
didn't make Number One. "I don't think it means the decline of S/A/W
though," said the spokeswoman. "In fact they are looking out for lots
of new acts and have just signed two guys from Soweto called
Marcalex."
