A millionaire tycoon and steam train enthusiast stepped in yesterday to
save the world's most famous locomotive, the Flying Scotsman.
Dr Tony Marchington bought the legendary train for an undisclosed price
after a £250,000 restoration project pioneered by the previous owners,
including pop producer Pete Waterman, was hampered by reported financial
problems.
The 72-year-old Flying Scotsman has lain stripped down in a shed in
West London since last April.
It was first saved from the scrapheap in 1963 when retired businessman
Alan Pegler bought it for just £3,000. Waterman recently valued it at
£1.25 million.
